TAKEOVER target Lihir Gold says it is still possible another suitor will come in to trump Newcrest Mining’s $9.5 billion bid ahead of next month’s shareholders meeting.<\/p>\n

Speaking in a teleconference about the company’s second quarter production, Lihir chief executive Graeme Hunt said there was no doubt other parties could come forward and bid more for the gold producer.<\/p>\n

“It is a possibility, there is no question about that, but I am not going to speculate on the probability of it happening,” Mr Hunt said.<\/p>\n
